Acer R14 (R5-471T-53CC)

Acer R14 (R5-471T-53CC) - Acer R14 (R5-471T-53CC)

The latest generation of convertible-hybrid laptops has grown in size. The Acer Aspire R14 (R5-471T-53CC), for example, has a 14-inch Full HD screen and weighs under 2-kgs. It has speed, thanks to a Intel Core i5-6200U processor, and good battery life. The Aspire R14 (R5-471T-53CC) looks like a traditional laptop, particularly when closed. Its dual hinge lets you pivot the screen into Notebook, Tent, Pad, or Display mode.
Display and Tent modes let you interact with the touch screen directly, and Pad mode lets you use the Aspire R 14 like a tablet. Because of its large size, we think that you'll mostly use the system in Notebook mode. The system measures about 342-by-246-by-18 mm. The 2-in-1comes with 14-inch IPS touchscreen offering a 1920-by-1080 pixels resolution. We found the touchscreen to be very responsive, and the hinges have enough friction to quell its bouncing around while you're interacting with the display.
The chiclet-style keyboard is comfortable enough to use all day. On the other hand, the one-piece touchpad clicks are a bit louder than those of other laptops and could get annoying quickly. Connectivity is adequate - on the left of the system, you'll find a USB 3.1 Type-C Connector, an HDMI port, a Kensington lock port, two USB 3.0 ports and the 3.5mm audio jack. On the right, there's an SD card slot, one USB 2.0 port, volume rockers, the power button and the power connector port.
Our review unit came with 4GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD storage. Unfortunately, the drive has a lot of pre-installed apps and programs, aka "bloatware." We're sure you'll find uses for some of the programs, but most of the apps are made for shopping or for services that require third-party paid subscriptions. You'll likely have to take an hour or two to check each of them out before deciding to delete or keep them. The system comes with a one-year warranty.
As mentioned earlier, the system comes an Intel Core i5-6200U processor with integrated Intel HD Graphics 520. In our PCMark 8 Work Conventional Test, we were able to clock a score of 2,196 points. This score suggests good overall performance. In terms of multimedia scores, the system took 2 minutes 54 seconds to complete the Handbrake test, which was slightly faster than some of the 2-in-1 devices we have tested in the past.
Battery life on our tests was good, too. The Aspire R 14 lasted 7 hours 12 minutes on our battery rundown test. The Acer R14 would be a good system if you tend to carry your laptops around the house untethered. The Acer Aspire R14 (R5-471T-53CC) will certainly last almost all day on battery power. It's also a very good performer on our benchmark tests, even if its margin of victory is slight. The Acer Aspire R14 (R5-471T-53CC) should definitely be on your "buy" list if you are looking for a feature-rich 2-in-1 that can be easily lugged around.
